Did you listen to the "About this Course" podcast that leads you through the website? Terrific!
The other thing you will need to know about is Google+. Not sure how to do this? Here are two great video tutorials. If you are familiar with Google+, you can skip this opportunity. If you aren't, choose one of them to watch (both would be overkill!).
Note: to see all the videos in this playlist, click the name of the video next to the in the upper left corner. There are TWO videos in this playlist.
Think About It!
There are a few things we need to think about as we start this course.
As you watch this video, consider: --how is this video like school? Professional Development? --do you recognize the characters? The student? The teacher? The scaffolding? The parents? --For me, this is a video about education, no matter where it happens!
But that doesn't address the technology. So let's think about this:
So it's time for you to introduce yourself. Attached are 8 sentence stems to think about.
My organizational strategy for success in this online course most resembles [this current event]. My self-directed motivation emulates that of [famous person, real or fictional] because [.........]. The hardest thing for me in an academic setting is [.........]. I just despise when instructors [......] because it [.....]. I took this class mostly because [......], but also because [......] The two things that would most help me be successful in this class are (1) [........] and (2) [.........]. My least favorite thing about on-line classes is [..........]. If it were up to me, [..............].
Plan It!
Now, complete the sentence stems and then post your contribution on Padlet (this is a Web2.0 formerly called Wallwisher--it costs...nothing. I never show something that costs money--that's ridiculous!). Padlet is also a great app available for a smart phone or ipad. Once you have completed your sentence stems, I need you to revisit the page to comment on others' postings. You can simply highlight and copy the text above, replace the text in brackets with your contribution to the sentence stem, then highlight it and copy/paste it into a new posting on this Padlet. To add the post, simply double click ANYWHERE on the padlet wall.
Do It!
You did it! So, once again, here are your assignments for this week (due next Sunday):
The “About This Course” has a bit to read, a podcast to listen to, and some videos to watch. These are NOT optional.
Visit the “Course Information” page. Read the Course Syllabus. Then visit the Course Overview. Then spend some time with the Course Assignments link.
Create a gmail account, email it to me (through KSU), create a google+ account, and add a Mobile Learning circle.
Don't forget! You will receive an email from "ThinkWave". DON’T DELETE IT!!!! It will give you access the gradebook. Super simple, super important, super free!
Post your "Expectations" stem sentences on this Padlet
This one is easy!
